When we talk about using concrete in interior design particularly in a residential setting, we are almost always thinking concrete patios, stairs or flooring. I would like to focus on other creative and unexpected uses of concrete to decorate contemporary homes. Concrete is a neutral material that can be shaped in many different ways to add interest to a space.  Here are some of my favourite applications: Concrete Fireplace Surrounds Concrete Bathroom Sink Concrete Outdoor Furniture Concrete seems to be the perfect material that is all around us in practical settings, yet with a bit of creative manipulation brings glamour and variety to all styles of decor. From practical to whimsical, concrete surely is the most versatile product in the world and I love its creative application in residential home decor.

Kitchen design and decor has come a long way. Today the kitchen in a home serves as the hub and center of family activities and gathering place. Functionality is key in a kitchen so our time spent preparing meals and clean-up afterward can go smoothly. Since we share our kitchen with our close friends and family we want it to look fabulous as well. It is clear that the days of being carefully neutral and safely moderate are over. We are into colors in a big way and not just colors but bold, beautiful colors that quite clearly demand attention and make a statement. To make things even more exciting we are loving the bold geometric and floral patterns. Natural fibers are in and textures are big. Mood boards are often used by interior designers and decorators to create the look and feel of a space to communicate their ideas effectively their team or clients. It is a great way to get a visual picture of a project before it starts. Any and all types of ideas, thoughts or grands schemes can be displayed through a mood board and I have created many over the years to show my clients what I have in mind for a project. It is a great tool and I use it often on my various decorating projects. 

My sister lives in a high-rise in Mumbai, India and being a gifted graphic designer, tastefully decorates every spare inch of her apartment in her unique impeccable style. I was particular struck by how she worked her magic on her small balconies to create a lot of additional living space. I started looking around for similar inspiring spaces tucked away in high-rises all over the world. Here are a few that I particularly love. These are so cute and cozy! I like the idea of tending to a small space, making it gorgeous and do a little bit of gardening and enjoying it whenever the weather permits. I have decided that if I ever live in a high-rise, I will create a balcony paradise for myself. 

This is a vast subject and there is much to say about the technical applications of proper forms of lighting. However, in this post I will focus more on the style element of different types of lighting. Nothing transforms a dreary and dull space as quickly as good lighting. Lighting can be used to hide flaws as much as to highlight features. Proper use of lighting can make a room look a lot larger and create an expansive space.  To start I will show you a few of my favourite floor and table lamps.
